This summer relax on the beach, take a dip in the water and see the beautiful Charleston sights.
Located in the Low Country of South Carolina, Charleston is a world famous tourist destination. Take a step back in history the moment you step downtown. Choose from a host of historically preserved mansions like the Nathaniel Russell House, the Federal townhouse of Charleston merchant Nathaniel Russell, completed in 1808, or the Heyward-Washington House, “Charleston’s Revolutionary War House†home of Thomas Heyward, Jr., Revolutionary patriot and signer of the Declaration of Independence. If you can't decide where to start, get your lay of the land in a horse drawn carriage.
Charleston is also home to some of the best boutique shopping the state. Designer shops like Gucci, Copper Penny, and Ben Silver illustrate the city's upscale flare. The city is known for antique shopping and handmade gifts found at the Market Pavilion.
Charleston is famous for its sit down family style meals and it's also known for it's enviable farmers' markets. Each week Marian Square plays host to the area's finest showing of local delicacies. It's a food culture that rivals any larger metrolitan area no matter your tastes. For upscale eats try Fig, Cypress, Slightly North of Broad, or Muse. For down home grub you can't miss Poogan's Porch or Jasmine's. There's a world of cuisine to sample in this diverse mesh of cultures.
Venture outside of town to one of Charleston's gorgeous beaches including Isle of Palms, Sullivan's Island, and Folly Beach. Sea kayaking is a popular avenue for exploring Charleston's water ways but relaxing on the beach with a good book is just as fabulous.
Consider a day trip out to one of the area's spralling plantations at Middleton Place or Drayton Hall. One thing is for sure, you'll won't hit it all in one trip.
